Legal experts meet to discuss transnational litigation

On 10 December 2015, Above Ground met in Toronto with Canadian and international litigators. The meeting sought to advance collective analysis on transnational civil litigation involving corporate defendants. Participants discussed recent legal developments in Canada and other jurisdictions. The outcomes of the meeting will inform Above Ground’s ongoing Access to Justice work.

Above Ground’s Access to Justice program seeks to improve access to the Canadian judiciary for foreign plaintiffs, particularly those who suffer human rights abuse associated with the overseas operations of Canadian companies. The program aims to enhance awareness and understanding among the Canadian public, civil society, decision-makers and the legal profession regarding barriers that prevent the victims of corporate abuse from accessing Canadian courts.
