Corporate Accountability

Above Ground promotes corporate practice that is respectful of human rights and the environment. We produce information and analysis about the overseas operations of Canadian companies and the regulatory context in which multinational companies engage.

We encourage the Canadian government to fulfill its legal duty to protect against human rights abuse, including through its partnerships with companies. The government provides the private sector with debt and equity financing, insurance, political backing and public relations support through institutions such as its export credit agency (Export Development Canada) and the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service. We encourage the government to ensure that the companies it supports respect human rights and the environment wherever they do business.
